Harriet Barber is an international investigative reporter, covering human rights abuses, migration, environment, sexual violence, abortion access and politics.

Harriet has filed dispatches from Ukraine, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Zambia, Ghana, New York and Uruguay, and is currently based in Latin America. She has worked with the Guardian, the Sunday Times, the BBC, New Lines Magazine, the New Internationalist, the Telegraph, and more.

Harriet has investigated war crimes committed by occupying Russian forces in Ukraine, the violent repression of indigenous communities in Argentina’s battle for lithium, failings of the NYPD in tackling increasing child sex trafficking, and the hostile treatment of Afghan refugees living in the UK.

Her on-the-ground reporting has also included covering Chile’s devastating 2024 wildfires, Argentina’s historic 2023 election and Ghana’s flawed coronavirus vaccine rollout. She regularly covers live Ukraine and Gaza war news, works as a photographer, and has produced a dozen short films.

Harriet has been named a finalist for the Amnesty Gaby Rado award, the Society of Editors’ Young Journalist of the Year award, and Press Gazette’s New Journalist of the Year, and was highly commended in the international affairs category for 30 journalists to watch 2023. She has completed hostile environment training, received NCTJ qualifications and trained with the Centre for Investigative Journalism.
